Merrill Lynch is the tenant being courted by local developer Jerry Joyce to locate in the former Pennsylvania Gas & Water Co. building. The catch is that Merrill Lynch doesn’t “want to work with a government entity,” and the building is owned by Lackawanna County. Commissioner Mike Washo and Commissioner-elect Corey O’Brien have both said it makes little sense for the county to sell the building, located at 135 Jefferson Ave., when office space is being rented in at least six non-county buildings. Merrill Lynch would be an excellent addition downtown. The ball is in your court Corey & Mike, don’t let us down.

An extremely rare and hard to find First Edition volume of “Poems and Lyrics” by Patrick F. Durkan. These are rare poems of the Irish, of Lackawanna County and Wyoming Valley Pennsylvania, of Scranton and Wilkes Barre and Ireland and the Civil War. This volume was self published by the author in 1903 and is an incredible treasure, particularly of you have Irish Heritage or have roots in North Eastern Pennsylvania.
